STRASBOURG Rectangular earthenware plate with violet monochrome decoration of a couple in a garden holding a cage after an engraving by Nicolas de Larmessin after Nicolas Lancret. Workshop of Paul Hannong. 18th century, circa 1745-1754. 22 x 17 cm. Provenance: Palais abbatial de Royaumont, Rothschild collection, Christie's, 19-21 September 2011, lot 284 Galerie Christophe Perlès, catalogue no. 13, 2012, no. 46, p. 106, notice by Marie-Alice and Jacques Bastian. This scene is partially copied from an engraving by Nicolas IV de Larmessin dating from 1735 entitled Les amours du bocage and inverting a painting by Nicolas Lancret entitled La cage à oiseau (The Birdcage) and kept at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich.
