Sevres Round butter dish in soft porcelain from the Roze chasses service of Louis XV with polychrome decoration of hunting scenes in three reserves surrounded by palms and flowers in gold on the edge standing out on a pink background. Marked : LL interlaced, letter-date E for 1758. D. 20 cm. The butter dish is missing. Provenance : King Louis XV in Versailles Christie's, London, 5 December 1928, lot 27 and Christie's, New York, 18 May 1989, lot 215. This butter dish dated 1758 is part of the Roze chasse service purchased for King Louis XV by Marie Herbin, widow of the merchant Michel-Joseph Lair in the last quarter of 1759. Supplements purchased by Louis XVI in 1782 and 1789, including a butter dish, have identified the royal provenance of this service.
