Swaddled infant Jesus blessing, bas-relief carved ivory escutcheon H. 6.5 cm, on a central triptych panel in wood covered with green velvet, total height 11.8 cm; total weight 41.2 g. 19th-century Italian school in the Renaissance style This escutcheon depicting the Christ Child is indeed made from ivory of today's Proboscideans, more specifically Elephantidae. In fact, the parameters for recognizing Elephantidae ivory are clearly visible in the form of the guilloches typical of this family. Chasing, sculpting and polishing have been carried out to modify the original appearance of the raw ivory material. A beautiful antique patina characterizes this ivory.
