Duprat, Letellier et Cie, 1802. 4 volumes in 2 volumes in-8, long-grained red morocco, smooth threaded spines, cold-stamped double fillet framing the boards with corner rings, gilt wavy fillet on the edges, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges; corners and headpieces a little rubbed, some freckling (rel. p. Lefebvre). I-II: (8)-xx-304-(4 of which last 2 blank)-(4 of which last blank)-273-(3 of which last blank) pp. - III-IV: (4 of which last blank)-243-(3 of which last blank)-(4 of which last blank)-293-(3 of which last blank) pp. First edition of the "free translation" of the Decameron by Honoré-Gabriel Riquetti de Mirabeau. Copy printed on wove paper. Against some of Boccaccio's short stories, Mirabeau has placed the verse tales that Jean de La Fontaine composed based on them. To which the publisher has added 4 Persian and Arabic tales, already published elsewhere, including one translated by the orientalist Louis Langlès, and the others taken from the Thousand and One Nights. 8 engraved plates on copperplate after drawings by CLEMENT-PIERRE MARILLIER, by various artists under the direction of Nicolas Ponce. Suite of 21 copper-engraved plates, including a title and 20 compositions after Hubert Bourguignon d'Anville dit Gravelot, distributed on request to complete copies of the illustrated London edition of the Decameron (1757-1761). - ESTAMPES GALANTES DES CONTES DU BOCCACE. Antique counterfeit of this suite with reversed subjects. Comprising 10 (of 21) color-enhanced copper-engraved plates, including the title, all re-embossed on laid paper and pasted to the inner margins of the volume. - 8 EROTIC DRAWINGS. 7 in graphite and one in red ink with pen. 6 of these drawings are copies of plates from the engraved suite above. - Portrait of Boccaccio after Gravelot, engraved by Jean-Baptiste-Michel Dupréel for the 1801 edition of the Decameron. This portrait was originally engraved by Louis-Simon Lempereur for the 1757-1761 edition. SOBER MOROCCO BINDING SIGNED BY LEFEBVRE. Nephew and successor of Jean-Claude Bozérian dit l'Aîné, he practiced until the early 1830s.
