RIT PRIMITIF. Tableau de la première [Loge] du Rit Primitif, en France; et pièce d'Architecture sur le même Rit. Direct address, to M. Jean Philadelphe; in Narbonne. 1790. Small in-8 booklet, stapled in paperback cover. Rit primitif : 51-(une blanche) pp. - " Supplément " manuscrit : 2 pp. 1/2 petit in-8 sur papier azuré. The Primitive Rite, strongly inspired by the mysticism of Martinès de Pasqually, was practiced by the Philadelphes Lodge in Narbonne (founded in 1779), whose leader was Marquis François-Anne de Chefdebien d'Armissan : At one time a member of a Lodge affiliated to the Grand Orient, he was also, among others, a member of the Strict Templar Observance, and a member of the Les Amis Réunis Lodge in Paris, where, as a friend of the Marquis de Savalette, he was commissioner of the Archives du Régime des Philalèthes. He took part in the Convents of Lyon (1778), Wilhelmsbad (1782) and Paris (1785). Among the associated or initiated members of the present Tableau is the famous magnetizing physician Franz Anton Mesmer. ENVOI MANUSCRIT DES PHILADELPHES TO JEAN-JACQUES BACON DE LA CHEVALERIE as Brother of the Lodge. The latter played an important role in the Grand Orient where, "ayant séance au Grand Directoire des Rites", he was, among other things, representative of the Primitive Rite. EXEMPLAIRE ENRICHED WITH A MANUSCRIT INTITULE "SUPPLEMENT au Tableau des Frères initiés ou affiliés" circa 1806: it adds 6 prestigious names with short Masonic notices, those of Jean-Jacques Bacon de La Chevalerie, Alexandre Henri Nicolas Roëttiers de Montaleau, Charles Jean-Louis Toussaint d'Aigrefeuille, Jean-Étienne-Juste Harmensen, the Count of Vienne Jean-Joseph-Henry-Augustin Bermond d'Alez d'Anduze and Claude-Antoine Thory.
