SAINT-CLOUD ( attributed to ) Goblet and... - Lot 51 - Pescheteau-Badin
SAINT-CLOUD ( attributed to ) Goblet and a saucer in soft porcelain decorated in blue monochrome with pierced rocks, flowers and foliage, and on the goblet of vases and incense burner in the Chinese style. The goblet marked : fleur de lis in blue. 18th century, circa 1696-1700. H. 8 cm and D. 10,7 cm. A restored chip on the rim of the goblet and a chip on the saucer. In 1696, the Chicaneau children addressed a placet to King Louis XIV in which they asked him to grant a privilege to their father-in-law Henri Trou for the composition of porcelain and specified that each piece would be marked with a fleur-de-lis and a sun. Chavagnac and Grollier cite the existence of a piece marked with a fleur-de-lis in the collections of the Marquis de Grollier and suggest a dating for this piece around 1696. The colour of the paste, the blue and the Chinese style of painting also point to a dating around 1700. For a study of the changes in porcelain bodies at Saint-Cloud and their dating, see Bernard Dragesco's study: "the secrets of Saint-Cloud soft paste porcelain", Tendre porcelaine de Saint-Cloud, exhibition catalogue, Musée des Avelines, Saint-Cloud, 2017, p. 23 ff.
