Gardens of Bagatelle, part of a panoramic... - Lot 89 - Pescheteau-Badin
Gardens of Bagatelle, part of a panoramic wallpaper, Manufacture Dufour in Mâcon, circa 1800-1804. Five paintings presenting a suite of nine strips printed on woodblock in polychrome on laid paper, blue brushed background. Drawing attributed to Pierre Antoine Mongin (1761-1778) representing an ideal park animated by many characters inspired by real or imaginary gardens. Thus we can recognize the Temple of Love built by Mique at the Petit Trianon in 1777- 1778, the Chinese bridge is identified as being that of the Castle of the Count of Artois in Bagatelle and the stone column of the last panel could be the Mast of the Prince of Conti in the park of Cassan at Isle Adam. Marouflé on canvas and stretched on frame, framed, (some lifting, old restorations, traces of humidity on the last two panels). 149 x 60 ; 147,5 x 106 cm and 148,5 x 158,5 cm (Panels in the original order of the strips: 4305, 4307, 4309, 7749.)
