Limited edition of 516 copies, this one of the 500 on Arches (n° 425), bearing an autograph signed letter to Augustine de Rothmaler / in friendly memory / André Gide / July 1919. Augustine de Rothmaler was a Belgian pedagogue and feminist who encouraged a social spirit among her pupils and opened schools to girls from poor neighborhoods. She joined the Belgian Women's Alliance for Peace through Education, frequented literary circles and was closely associated with Theo and Maria van Rysselberghe, confidante of André Gide, who was one of her students.
