Sevres Round soft porcelain pot with polychrome... - Lot 268 - Pescheteau-Badin
Sevres Round soft porcelain pot with polychrome decoration in the center of a bouquet of flowers and fruits in a medallion surrounded by gold piastres and flowering branches on a celestial blue background. Marked: LL interlaced, letter-date FF for 1783, mark of the painter François-Marie Barrat and mark of the gilder Jean-Pierre Boulanger. 18th century, 1783. D. 20,6 cm. A small chip extended by a crack. The decoration and especially the gold ornaments are similar to those of the service made in Vincennes for King Louis XV. In the first half of 1784, the merchant Bazin bought complements for the celestial blue service, described in the painters' registers: celestial blue groups of flowers and fruits and in particular six round compotiers at 42 livres each. It is not known who the recipient of these supplements was, nor whether they were supplements for the celestial blue service of the crown kept at Trianon or for the service purchased from the King by Choiseul in 1757. These six celestial blue compote dishes were painted by Barrat in 1783 (see David Peters, 2015, vol. II, p. 288, and Artists list 3, p. 1311).
