MEISSEN Porcelain statuette representing a capuchin monk standing in prayer on a rectangular base with gold fillets. Marked : crossed swords in blue. 18th century, circa 1740-1745. H. 27 cm. Missing auriculars and two small chips. Kaendler's work in 1740 mentions Einen Parfüßer Mönch Capuciner Ordens in ziemliecher Größe für Ihro Duchl. der Herzogen of Churland in seinem gewöhnlichen Habit auf einem Postament stehend [a barefoot monk of the Capuchin Order of considerable size for His Highness the Duke of Courland in his usual habit standing on a pedestal]. A copy in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum is reproduced by R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, 1966, no. 908.
