Adolphe Léon WILLETTE. The Pierrot. 1888-1891. In-folio, green half-percaline (Binding of the period). 200/300 Rare complete collection of this weekly, satirical and polemical magazine, founded by Adolphe Willette, Director, and Émile Goudeau, Editor-in-Chief (Collection André Vasseur, 72). The set comprises 51 issues, from No. 1 of the first year, July 6, 1888, to No. 1 of the fourth year, March 20, 1891. Each issue contains 4 leaves, 2 pages of which are illustrated with Willette's compositions, the other 2 pages with texts and often sketches by the founder. Published regularly every week from July 1888, Le Pierrot was interrupted after May 3, 1889, and resumed on August 9 of the same year, ending with the September 20, 1889 issue. The magazine was completed with a special issue on March 5, 1891, and a No. 1 on March 20 of the same year, the latter two at the instigation of new director Rupert Carabin, a sculptor and friend of Willette. Willette contributed to numerous magazines, including Le Chat noir, Le Rire and L'Assiette au beurre.
