Sèvres Compotier coquille in soft-paste porcelain with polychrome decoration of groups of flowers and fruit in a medallion in the center and four rectangular reserves on the rim surrounded by garlands of flowers and foliage in gold on a beautiful blue background. Marked: LL interlaced, letter-date II for 1786, painter's mark Guillaume Noël and gilder's mark Chauvaux. 18th century, 1786. L. 21.5 cm. An old restored chip and gold wear. This compotier comes from a service offered as a diplomatic gift by King Louis XVI to Pedro Pablo Abarca de Bolea Ximiez de Urré, Count of Aranda, Spanish ambassador to France between 1773 and 1787. The decoration of this service is described as a royal blue background, painted in groups of flowers and fruit, and richly gilded. It comprised 172 plates at the high price of 72 livres each. See D. Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th century, 2005, vol. IV, pp. 817-820.
