Size : 67 x 49 cm ; Frame size : 69 x 51 cm Provenance: Purchased in 1875 by Orientalist painter Charles Landelle (1821-1908), and given to Orientalist painter Paul Leroy (1860-1942), Paris, then by descent until 1976. According to a documentary note affixed to the reverse, this panel was acquired in 1875 by the Orientalist painter Charles Landelle (Laval, 1821-Chennevières sur Marne, 1908) during one of his trips to Egypt or Jerusalem, and hung in his studio on Quai Voltaire, Paris. He offered it to his friend Paul Leroy (Paris, 1860-Paris, 1942), also an Orientalist painter, who faithfully reproduced it in several of his paintings, including The Student, The Firstborn, The Persian Miniaturist and others. The panel remained with Paul Leroy's son until 1976. See also Arthur Millner, Damascus Tiles, Prestel Editions 2015, fig. 6.36, pp. 256-57 for a large floral panel with three similar flowering vases.
