In-8, garnet morocco, ribbed spine with black title page, gilded vegetal frieze framing the boards with gilded crowns in spandrels and beige leather patches decorated with gilded motifs (Masonic symbol, crowns, geometric shapes, fleurons), gilded edges, gilded edges (period binding). viii-172-40 pp. with (4) pp. printed on 2 ff. inserted between pp. viii and 9; binding a little worn with split jaws and dull corners. Edition procured by Edward Spratt, Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Ireland. Without the often-missing frontispiece. Copper-engraved vignette in the text bearing the arms of Baron Kingsborough, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ireland, with Masonic symbols. Provenance: Dr. Charles Clay, then Fortitude Lodge, no. 675, probably Newton Lodge near Chester, Cheshire (handwritten ex-dono dated 1852-1853).
