Gustave VIOLET (1873 - 1952) - Lot 90
Gustave VIOLET (1873 - 1952) "Vigneron sulfatant", model created circa 1910. Bas-relief in patinated terra cotta with square body and semi-reliefs decoration (chips, small missing parts and cracks). No signature. Height 55 cm - Length 54.5 cm - Depth 4.5 cm History: our bas-relief is probably a preparatory model made by Gustave Violet for the decoration of a fireplace in the mas de La Garriga in Pollestres, which belonged to the Puig-Ametller family. The mantelpiece was adorned with three large terracotta bas-reliefs (1m x 1m) depicting scenes of rural life: a man currying a horse, a winegrower sulfating a vine and women picking fruit. This composition was later used for other decors, notably to decorate facades. Model presented at the exhibition dedicated to Gustave Violet in 2014 at Château Vall Roch in Prades.
