Julio Le PARC (Born 1928) - Lot 175
Julio Le PARC (Born 1928) Couleur No 1, 1971 Acrylic on canvas, signed, dated and titled on back 130 x 130 cm Produced in 1971, this work belongs to an emblematic series by Julio Le Parc, in which color becomes a terrain for sensory experimentation. Built on a system of rigorously arranged concentric circles, the painting explores chromatic variations in regular progression, creating an intense, hypnotic optical ripple effect. Far from being a mere decorative abstraction, this composition embodies research into visual perception, typical of the GRAV (Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel) aesthetic founded by Le Parc in 1960. The viewer is not confronted with a fixed image: he or she is engaged in a dynamic experience in which colored vibrations provoke an instability of the gaze. In his Couleur series, Le Parc rejects any hierarchy of forms or narratives, concentrating instead on a serial logic: the system is visible and legible, but its sensitive effects remain open and unpredictable. Couleur n°1 embodies this fertile paradox between methodical rigor and free sensation. We would like to thank Yamil Le Parc, the artist's son, who kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work.
