MEISSEN - Lot 447
MEISSEN
Porcelain statuette depicting a lute-playing actor standing on an oval base, wearing green pants, a black vest with yellow buttons and a purple drape over his left arm and shoulder.
Designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler in 1739.
18th century, circa 1740.
H. 17.5 cm.
Missing thumb on left hand, missing keys and restoration.
This figure is inspired by the musician painted by Nicolas Lancret in Conversation Galante (Wallace Collection, London). It has been suggested that it could be Mezzetin or Scaramouche (see Angela Gräfin von Wallwitz, Celebrating KAendler, Meissen Porcelain Scultpure, 2006, no. 9, pp. 66-69 and Ulrich Pietsch, Meißner Porzellanplastik von Gottlied Kirchner und Johann Joachim Kaendler, 2006, no. 88, pp. 63-64).
