Pair of oval porcelain potpourris in the shape of a gourd on a terrace, decorated in relief and polychrome with flowering branches and foliage, polychrome decoration of insects.
Marked: crossed swords in blue.
18th century, circa 1745-50.
H. 14 cm.
The metal lids are attached and the flowers are chipped.
This form is inspired by the soft-paste porcelain pots-pourris from Saint-Cloud from the 1730s-1740s, see for example the pot-pourri in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, reproduced by Bertrand Rondot, Discovering the Secrets of Soft-Paste Porcelain at The Saint-Cloud Manufactory, cz. 1690-1766¸1999, no. 164, p. 218.
