Bordeaux - Lot 79
Bordeaux
Earthenware church lamp consisting of a circular bowl with polychrome decoration of Christ, the Virgin Mary and Saint Peter in cartouches framed by flowers, fruit and foliage, alternating with three winged putti faces in bas-relief holding the suspension formed by three strings of earthenware beads decorated with blue, yellow and red fillets, the cup at the top decorated with simulated foliage and gadroons.
18th century, circa 1740.
H. of the bowl: 30 cm.
Total height: 95 cm.
Restoration to the end of the bowl and some pearls replaced.
The Bordeaux attribution is based on the strong similarities in the treatment of flowers and fruit with the dishes and bowls of the Bordeaux earthenware service decorated with the coat of arms of Claude Boucher, Intendant of the Generality of Bordeaux from 1720 to 1743. A bowl from this set, inscribed "BORDAUX" on the reverse, is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Bordeaux.
