Sèvres
A soft-paste porcelain soup plate with polychrome decoration in the center of a bird on a shrub in a medallion encircled by a braid with a beau bleu background and a row of gold pearls, the wing decorated with arabesques formed of garlands of roses and forget-me-nots between two braids with a beau bleu background adorned with a row of gold pearls.
Marked: LL interlaced, partially erased during firing, letter-date probably PP for 1792, mark of painter Charles Nicolas Buteux.

This plate comes from the service delivered to Jean-Baptiste Vandenyver on November 29, 1792, banker in Paris, rue Vivienne (see David Peters, op. cit. n° 92-27). A plate from this service, which came from the bequest of Baroness Salomon de Rothschild, is now in the Musée du Louvre. Part of the service is also in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg (Nina Birioukova, La Porcelaine de Sèvres du XVIIIe siècle, 2005, n° 1021-1029, pp. 209-213).
