Etruscan B porcelain bowl with straight handles, decorated in gold with ribbons and garlands of foliage.
Marked with a vignette in red: M. Imple de Sèvres and mark of year 13 of the republic (23-9-1804 to 22-9-1805).
Empire period, year 13, 1804-1805.
L. 20 cm, H. 11 cm.
This bowl certainly comes from a lunch purchased by the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart, father of Alexandre Brongniart, on 30 Pluviôse an 13 (Vy16 fol 33v).
On 22 Pluviôse an 13 (February 11, 1805), the appraisal registers (Pb) list a bowl for Morin with a selling price of 21f, which corresponds to the selling price to Mr. Brongniart.
Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart is himself the author of the frieze used on this lunch that he purchased.
This rare bowl shape was inspired by antique ceramic objects from the Denon collection that were kept at the Manufacture. Only one other example is known to exist.
The archives of the Manufacture de Sèvres hold this gilded frieze design by Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart under number 2012.1.1229.
