Camille Naudot - Lot 283
Camille Naudot Lotus flower-shaped porcelain pedestal bowl with pink ground and transparent enamel rice-grain decoration of white flowers, 1901 Marked: CN entwined in gold and CN 4.1901 debossed H. 6.8 cm, D. 8.7 cm. Restorations Camille Naudot studied at the École de Sèvres and succeeded his father as a porcelain merchant around 1889. He founded a company in Raincy in 1893, where he conducted research into soft paste and ran a sales outlet in Paris at 10 rue Auber. Having perfected a new soft paste, he set about reproducing 18th-century Sèvres porcelain and found a clientele delighted to restock his service pieces. He specialized in "grains of rice" decoration, inspired by Chinese porcelain. Openings in the paste are filled with transparent colored enamels, while the decoration is defined by enamels on paste and gold highlights in relief. Camille Naudot won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition, and the Grand Prix at the 1901 St. Petersburg and 1908 London Exhibitions. For comparable cut models, see Alastair Duncan, "The Paris Salons 1895 - 1914, Vol. 4", Antique Collector's Club, Woodbridge, 2006, reproduced on p. 359.
