CHINA - QIANLONG period (1736 - 1795) - Lot 17
CHINA - QIANLONG period (1736 - 1795) Light celadon jade (nephrite) brushholder with incised and gilded decoration of the three friends of winter and two imperial poems by the Qianlong emperor: - poem about plum trees in bloom: The poet admires the spirit of the plum tree that blooms despite the bitter cold, and he particularly appreciates the image of the plum tree branches reflecting on the water. The Song dynasty poet Lin Bu immortalized this magnificent scene in a famous verse, so much so that after him, no one dared to write poems while contemplating plum trees. - Pine tree poem: The spirit of the pine tree resembles that of a white crane, noble and solitary; its silhouette evokes a creeping black dragon. If pine could have a friend, it would undoubtedly be the delicately scented orchid. On the reverse, the stylized "shou" (longevity) mark. (Natural vein). H. 11.5 cm; Diam. 6 cm.
