Counterfeit of the original edition published the same year. The novel was published in 1782 by Durand Neveu, with a print run of 2,000 copies. It was a runaway success, with sixteen different editions recorded by 1782. A copy of the E edition, as described by Max Brun. According to him, it is a forgery. A fine copy, despite the old restoration of the head of Volume II and worn corners. Small hole in title of Volume II.
