First edition of these unappealable judgments by the forty academicians. Autograph address signed on a flyleaf to Armand Hayem / Des épigrammes à qui les / aime / et n'en inspire pas / Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly (with arrow). Armand Lazare Hayem (1825-1889) was a man of letters and politician. He was the brother of Charles Hayem, a collector and patron of the arts with whom Barbey was associated. Minor rubbing to binding and whitish stain.
