Gabriel-Henri GAILLARD. Histoire de François Premier, roi de France, dit le grand roi et le père des lettres. Paris, Foucault, 1819. 5 volumes in-8, long-grained red morocco, right frame formed by a gilt roulette set with double fillets and a cold roulette, central coat of arms, spine with 5 nicely decorated nerves, interior roulette, gilt edges (Simier R. du roi).

Fourth edition with steel-engraved portrait by Leroux after Titian. The first edition appeared in 1766.
A fine copy bearing the coat of arms of Louis XVIII, fourth son of Louis XV, who was king from 1815 to 1824. The arms stamped on the volume are very similar to those reproduced by Olivier on plate 2497, iron no. 9.
Slight loss to upper head of volume I and spine slightly faded. Leaves occasionally foxed.
