First edition of Mérimée's second work. It features an engraved frontispiece depicting the poet Hyacinthe Maglanovich as a Guzla player.
Mérimée's pastiche was so successful that Pushkin himself was fooled into thinking it was a translation of Russian songs.
A fine copy from the Villeboeuf library (bookplate).
Small loss at upper spine and stains on a few leaves.
