HORACE. Odes. Paris, Philippe Gonin, 1939. 2 volumes in-8, black morocco, geometric decoration in orange and blue paper on boards, smooth spines, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine, case (Devauchelle). Monod, I-6091 /// I. (4f.)-179-(1f.) / II. (1f.)-278-(1f.). Bilingual edition with French translation by Baron Jacques-Antoine-Adrien Delort, all revised by Madame Michel Roussier, archivist-paleographer. It is illustrated with 131 woodcuts by Aristide Maillol, including 4 for the covers, 2 frontispieces and 125 in the text (actually 118 different woodcuts, some repeated). Limited edition of 400 copies, all on hemp and linen paper, this one (no. 31) being one of 100 containing a black suite of all the woodcuts and a sanguine suite (here only for the first volume). A very fine copy.
