Sèvres - Lot 276
Sèvres A square soft-paste porcelain flower box of the first size with polychrome decoration on one side of a dozing young woman, observed by a young man, and on the other three sides of birds on terraces in medallions surrounded by foliage and rosettes in gold on a beautiful blue background. Marked: LL interlaced, letter-date Z for 1777, painters' marks Charles-Nicolas Dodin and Aloncle, gilder's mark Vincent. 18th century, 1777. H. 14.8 cm, L. 12.5 cm. The four knobs at the top of the corners are missing, small chips at the feet. This flower box appears among Dodin's works in January 1777: 2 caisses 1er g. mignature (arch. Sèvres, Registre Vj'1, 1777). Sales records are imprecise at this date, however, it could be one of the 2 cases at 216 livres each sold to Madame Dérué on March 24, 1777 (Arch. Sèvres, Vy6, f° 174).
