MARKWICK London Late 18th century Gilded metal and shagreen* repeater watch with triple protective cases, English craftsmanship for the Ottoman market. Case: main case in gilded metal, engraved and pierced on the middle section with a double metal back for the resonance of the repeater; second case engraved with a maritime scene on the reverse; and third case adorned with shagreen and perforated along the edges. Dial: engraved metal, Turkish hour markers, signed. Movement: gilded, verge escapement, finely engraved silver cock re-pierced with scroll decoration, two-hammer repeater on gong, signed and numbered 426 mainplate. (Functionality not guaranteed). Diameter: 54 mm (main case), 65 and 79 mm. Includes: its 375-thousandths gold key.
