CHINA Large round porcelain dish decorated in blue-red, Imari gold with the Arms of Thomas Pitt surrounded by flowering trees. Mark on reverse. Kangxi period D. 47 cm. Thomas Pitt (1653-1726) was Governor General of Fort St. George and later of Jamaica. He sold a 141-carat diamond to the Duc d'Orléans for the French crown jewels, on display at the Louvre since 1887, earning him the nickname "Diamond Pitt".
