*ARNACHELLUM, SALEM Hunting knife, double-edged polished metal blade, signed 'ARNACHELLUM SALEM', hilt finished with two buttons, deer antler spindle, with original leather scabbard. By Arnachellum, Salem, India, 19th century. L. 42 cm. Arnachellum was an important manufacturer of European-style knives and daggers, active in the 19th century. Based in Salem, India, many of his knives were sold to Confederate forces during the American Civil War. Two examples by this manufacturer are held in the English Royal Collections (RCIN 38126 and 38127).
